Just An Update

Fri Jun 6, 2008, 10:36 PM
Haven't been in a very creative mood lately. Just kind of cruising along and taking things as they come; occassionally snapping a few pictures while I'm at it. I'm mostly just typing this to get my last journal off my frontpage, honestly.

I recently found out that an old writing project I've been working at off-and-on got permanently deleted and I don't have any back-up copies of it anywhere. One of those things where I didn't feel like putting even the first couple of chapters on here because I wasn't sure where I'd actually get with it and how long that would take. Plus it was good enough that I was actually worried a bit about plagiarism, and considering how critical I am of my own work, that's definately saying something. It wasn't like a masterpiece or anything like that, but it was beyond a doubt the best story I'd ever written. And now it's gone. Ah well, though, right? C'est la vie.

Not that anyone cares, but I'm still working at Admiral and am doing the same stupid shit I normally do. All my addictions are present and accounted for, and my biggest hobby is still procrastination. The details are essentially meaningless, I've found. Hopefully I'll be mixing things up pretty soon here and might get some artistic or otherwise hobby-type stuff done, but I wouldn't really count on it knowing my past behaviour.

...and that would be about it, I guess.

That would be the one. Neglected for far too long after losing a chapter of it, and now completely lost to the void in entirety. C'est la vie, though, yeah?

Oh I know what that one is like! If I thought I was underweight before I moved here, I definitely am now!

I'm with DreiGrasheir, write the story again and it will probably be even better than last time :)... Especially if you don't actively try to imitate the first attempt from memory.

Ugh, I don't even want to think about trying to compete with myself over that story. The beginning was basically the pinnacle of my ability, and I don't want to think of how bad I'm likely going to fuck up a rewrite.

I might try just the same, mind you, but I really dread the outcome. Especially compared to the original, y'know?

Damn, two votes for a rewrite. I guess I could see what I come up with, but I really don't want to think of how short it's likely to fall from the original. I really liked that story.

Well, then maybe try for a spin-off instead. Similar theme/setting but different story. Draw from the original for basic ideas but in every other way make it it's own complete story unto itself. That way there should be a little less temptation to compare it to the first story (I hope anyway).

Could do a similar story from the perspective of another character, I suppose. I know one character I sort of wrote out of the story who I could pick up after.
